In my second year as an undergraduate , I decided to volunteer in China to teach and obtain my TEFL qualification. During this trip, I had the chance to travel to amazing cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Xiamen.
I was able to teach for a week in each city to children with a wide range of English skills; the week consisted of teaching English, playing games and educating the English culture to the Chinese students. I was awarded a TEFL certificate, but this was not the only thing I gained from this trip.
I learned to be empathetic a culmination of my diverse experiences, the diverse culture and the diversity of the people I met. Flexibility is another attribute I inherited in my trip to Asia, I learned to be open-minded and understand any situations that can occur unexpectedly, and I learned to work with all types of people no matter how challenging they were.
I became much more tolerant than before by respecting a culture that I didn’t understand but learned to adapt to.
